What Are EXPRESSIVE ARTS?
The expressive arts draw on visual art, movement and dance, theater, poetry, and music to awaken our imagination and inner wisdom. Art-making is naturally therapeutic, helping us explore our past, make sense of our present, and move toward our future with clarity.
Each art form taps into a unique sensory experience. When we combine them, we open ourselves to new ways of experiencing, feeling, knowing, and being.
A Living Process
We move and dance. We paint and sculpt. We write poems and embody stories. We listen, we improvise, we play. We dance the painting, paint the poem, and express both our sorrows and our joys. Our approach is not cookie cutter, recipe, or “therapy by numbers.” Instead it’s an ever-evolving co-creative process that may move through multiple art forms in a session. Or just stay with one.
Working in the arts and in multiple forms deepens our capacity for self-discovery and healing. The arts offer a safe and sacred space, one that holds both what feels heavy and what feels light. They help us see not only what is lost, but what is strong, vital, and alive.
Expressive Arts reconnect us with meaning, beauty, and our soulful humanity.
